People with work-related complaints can benefit greatly from occupational physical therapy. This form of therapy is regular physical therapy combined with occupational recovery counseling. Examples of work-related complaints are CANS – complaints of Arm, Neck and Shoulder (formerly RSI) – or complaints of the (lower) back.

Regular physical therapy may include mobilizations, trigger point therapy, connective tissue therapy, breathing therapy, relaxation therapy, cupping and exercise therapy.

Sometimes complaints cannot be remedied by physical therapy alone because the conditions at work are structurally unsound. In such a case, the therapist comes to the workplace to do job-focused recovery counseling. A so-called “Workplace Analysis” is then done. The therapist looks at what, if anything, can be changed about the workplace, such as a desk or chair, and what the client can change himself. Consider training posture or muscle strength in certain areas, for example, through back training or postural therapy. Back training in the case of long-term back complaints. Postural therapy offers a solution for poor posture, whether seated or standing.
